King William (Billy) Pine

Scientific Classification
Kingdom: plantae
Division: spermatophytes (seeded plants)
Subdivision: gymnosperms {(naked seed), softwoods} 
Order: pinales (having reproductive cones)
Family: cupressaceae (cypress family)
Genus: athrotaxis (A genus of only 2-3 species endemic to Tasmania)   
Species: selaginoides (The other main species; cupressoides, pencil pine)[(laxifolia; summit or yellow twig athrotaxis. Is it a third species or hybrid?)]

Salmon-pink in colour, straight grained, soft. Was used for boat building, also sounding boards in musical instruments; reputedly one of the best tonal woods in the world. Rare.
